The Campaign

There are conditions in our community that have caused harm and cultivated systemic racism, racial disparities, and the overrepresentation of marginalized communities in incarceration. The mission of the Transforming Trauma Campaign is to elevate healing while preventing further re-traumatization of all people through the systemic implementation of the Trauma-Informed Care Code of Conduct (TICCC), especially for those closest to the pain – our service providers. 

The goal of the Campaign is to train organizations and individuals who work with traumatized populations to utilize the Trauma-Informed Care Code of Conduct during all interactions with this vulnerable population. Our approach is to address these populations through a justice-informed lens by using trainers with lived experience in gangs, incarceration, emotional, physical and substance abuse. The Trauma-Informed Care Code of Conduct is a statement of four basic expectations and needs of youth and families who have suffered from trauma:

  • Safety: A safe and open-minded place where I feel welcome

  • Individualized Support: Assist me and consider the factors affecting my situation. 

  • Effective Communication: Provide me with clear and consistent information.

  • Supportive Staff: Staff is kind and has a true and genuine passion for helping me.

TICCC was created by YE youth in a collaborative process with youth from our partner organizations Project A.W.A.R.E. and Just in Time for Foster Youth. It was developed as part of the “Strong Families, Healthy Communities” coalition that was led by the Clinton Health Matters Initiative, an initiative of the Clinton Foundation in partnership with The San Diego Foundation (TSDF) and the County of San Diego (COSD).
