School Mentorship

I.M.A.G.I.N.E.

Inspirational Mentoring Agents Generating Incredible Nourishment & Empowerment

Working in San Diego Unified School District, the I.M.A.G.I.N.E. curriculums build healthy schools, communities, and meaningful connections through group mentorship. YE provides social/emotional support using restorative practices through weekly restorative circles and one-on-one mentoring, where needed. Our lived-experience mentors provide trauma-informed care focused on the whole health of the students: social, emotional, physical and mental health, including practices to make positive connections between mind and body. In addition to working with students, Youth Empowerment also provides programming and mentorship for school staff, teachers and families.

Curriculums offered: Interactive Journaling, Healthy Relationships, Seeking Safety, Trauma Informed Care Code of Conduct, Parents on a Mission, and Gang Prevention and Intervention.

Testimonials

Students

Being with Youth Empowerment was so fun. I made a lot of new friends, and my mentors were really cool. We did a lot of activities and it helped me get out of the house and not be stuck there. I really loved my mentors and I hope I get to do another program with them soon!
— Kimberly, 14

Families

I noticed a big change with my granddaughter and all of the students from beginning to end. It is a positive, uplifting program [where] they feel they belong. Plus, to help our youth to stay out of trouble and to feel positive about themselves. Our youth need all the empowerment they can receive. Thank you very much for helping our children.
— Ms. Hinton, grandparent

Educators

Since the pandemic has hit we are seeing an increase of substance abuse and domestic violence at home. YE is able to give support to our staff as well as our students during these difficult times. Assisting with our young people using their lived experience has made the ultimate difference, especially since a lot of our staff lack the lived experience it may take to connect with our students on a level they will understand.
— Mario Valladolid, resource counselor for the San Diego Unified School District
